Chandigarh : All the deputy inspectors general of police in Punjab have been asked to submit a comprehensive security plan for major cities and towns within the next 15 days to further beef up security in the state.
The direction was given Friday by the Director General of Police (DGP) N.P.S. Aulakh while presiding over a crime review meeting of senior police officers here.
Aulakh said the security plan comprising installation of ultra-modern surveillance system at all sensitive and vulnerable points is essential for ensuring fool-proof security in the major cities of Punjab.
With a detailed security plan, the matter could be taken up with the central Ministry of Home Affairs for additional funds, he said.
Aulakh also directed field officers to ensure computerised registration of first information reports (FIRs) throughout the state by Dec 31.
Pointing out recent incidents involving security personnel in crimes, Aulakh ordered detailed manpower audit of the force by end of the month. Also, he instructed that the lists of deployment of force should be signed by the district police chiefs and commandants of battalions.
Two gunmen of a senior Punjab police officer were involved in looting a Mumbai-based diamond merchant of diamonds and jewellery worth nearly Rs.40 million near Ludhiana this month.
