Assam rocked by deadly serial blasts, 30 killed

New Delhi: Assam today was ripped through by 11 serial deadly blasts in which at least 30 people have reportedly been killed and more than 100 injured.
The blasts rocked busy market areas in Guwahati, Barpeta and Bongaigaon districts around 11:30 am.
Ten persons were killed Guwahati which witnessed four blasts while 10 others were killed in Kokrajhar town where three explosions occurred, says Hindustan Times.

Soon after the explosions nearby areas got caught fire, so the toll could go up. Three bombs exploded in Barpeta district and one in Bongaigaon district.

The first blast in Guwahati occurred at a vegetable and fruit market at Ganeshguri near the high security secretariat and the Assembly.
The blast caused a major fire in the area with smoke engulfing the entire market and nearby places.

According to media reports more than 100 people have been wounded in the blasts.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has cut short his Maharashtra visit.
Curfew has been clamped in Guwahati.

According to IANS, curfew was clamped in Guwahati after rampaging mobs attacked police vehicles and commuter buses in the wake of the serial blasts that rocked the state, killing at least 30 people and injuring over 100.

Police fired in the air to disperse the mobs, which set ablaze about a dozen vehicles. There were no injuries in the firing, police said.
