Guwahati: The Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) has appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony and demanded proper inquiry into the serial blasts in Assam yesterday in which more than 70 people have been killed.
AUDF, a political party led by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind in Assam, has strongly condemned the bomb blasts in in Guwahati and three other districts in the sate on October 30 and lamented the death of innocent people. The party has termed the terrorist attack an attack on humanity and “a nefarious conspiracy to shatter the traditional life of peaceful co-existence by various communities in the state.”
AUDF general secretary and spokesperson Dr Baharul Islam said: “The AUDF sees the serial blasts as an indication of complete failure of law and order machinery of the state government and demands an independent inquiry into the blasts. The Government was aware of various terrorist activities in the state and a potential threat to the state, specially the gateway city of the Northeast – Guwahati, as the Union Home Secretary was reported in the national media. However, it appears that all these warnings fell on deaf ears and the state government ruled by the Congress party failed to gear up its intelligence in order to prevent these blasts in Assam.”
The AUDF has appealed to all and specially the news media to maintain an objective perspective in ascribing the blasts on any group or sections lest it is used by any anti-social elements to build up communal tension in the society.
“The Bomb Blasts or any act of terrorism is an attack of the culture and traditional peaceful life of this state and we should stand vigil to protect that mutual understanding among various communities,” Dr Baharul Islam said.
“In order to dispel all doubts and stop any further rumor mongering or sensitization of yesterday’s tragedy, AUDF appeals that the government should order a proper inquiry into the blasts and bring all the culprits to book. The culprits of such dastardly act should be given exemplary punishment irrespective of their affiliation or religion,” he added.
