Srinagar : Peace largely prevailed in the Kashmir valley Monday, a day before Muslim holy month of Ramadan, as curfew was relaxed in a phased manner for varying periods.
In the summer capital Srinagar, curfew was relaxed from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. in the areas under police stations of Pantha Chowk, Ram Munshi Bagh, Nishat, Kothibagh, Maisuma, Nehru Park, Kralkhud, Shergari, Shaheed Gunj, Karan Nagar, Batmaloo, Saddar, Nowgam, Chanpura, Rajbagh, Nigeen, Lal Bazar, Soura, Zakoora, Zadibal and Parimpora.
The relaxation in curfew period was later extended up to 7 p.m. excluding Police Station Saddar.
The curfew was also relaxed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the areas falling under five police stations in the city including Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safa Kadal.
“The relaxation period passed off peacefully barring some minor incidents of stone pelting at paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers at Fateh Kadal in old city and Danderkhah Batmaloo in uptown area,” a police officer said.
“At Fateh Kadal, one person received rubber bullet injury and was shifted to hospital for treatment,” the police officer said.
In south Kashmir towns of Pampore, Awantipora, Pulwama, Tral, Kulgam, Bijbehara and Anantnag and in central Kashmir towns of Beerwah, Magam, Budgam, Soibug and Chadoora also curfew was relaxed during the day for varying periods.
