Japanese Prime Minister Resigns

Tokio : Prime Minister of Japan Yasuo Fukuda has unexpectedly announced his resignation, in view of the impossibility to implement key policies to solve crucial issues, including slow economic growth, in the archipelago.

In a press conference, Fukuda explained amid surprise that it is necessary to try to adopt measures in a new work framework and in this regard he said this is the best moment to resign and avoid a power vacuum.

Fukuda, who is also president of the governing Liberal Democratic Party, said he gave instructions to LDP Secretary General Taro Aso to appoint his replacement.

Fukuda, 72, with a performance characterized by low levels of acceptance, came to power in September 2007.

His resignation increases political instability prevailing in the last few years in Japan.
