Advani, the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha (Lower House) , asked the Bihar government to turn the challenge thrown up by the devastating floods wrought by the Kosi into an opportunity and lauded the Nitish Kumar government for its efforts to mitigate the sufferings of the deluge-hit people.

“Since the recurrent floods in Bihar caused by rivers originating in Nepal have international dimensions, I would meet the Prime Minister tomorrow to seek both long and short term solutions to the problem in coordination with the government in the Himalayan country,” he told reporters after making an aerial survey with Nitish Kumar, JD(U) President Sharad Yadav and other senior NDA leaders.

“Being a public representative from Gujarat I saw ravages caused by the floods at Morvi, the plague in Surat and the earthquake in Kutch and also saw the spirited fight by the people in rebuilding these places, which present a better picture now than when they were not struck by the calamity,” the BJP strongman said.

“I am confident that the people of Bihar will show similar tenacity and courage in their hour of crisis by converting the challenge into opportunity,” he said.

Advani, however, said the bigger challenge lay in reconstruction and rehabilitation after the people were rescued and the water level receded.
