Islamabad : At least seven deposed High Court and Suppreme Court judges were reinstated in Pakistan on Friday.
Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC), Justice Tariq Pervez, took oath of his office Friday under the administration of Awais Ghani, the Governor of North-West Frontier Province (NWFP).
An official notification, released to the press, confirmed his reinstatement. Justice Tariq Pervez had earlier rejected the notion that he will accept the new government’s offer to be reinstated without former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdary.
Former President Pervez Musharraf last year deposed more than 60 judges including Iftikhar Chauhdary during his emergency rule. The issue of reinstatement of Iftikhar Chauhdary has created rifts among the ruling coalition and they parted their ways last month after failing to reach on consensus over the issue.
Later, Friday night three more PHC judges were reinstated and took oath of their offices. According to official notification, their oath taking ceremony was delayed due to load-shedding.
Also, three deposed judges of the Supreme Court were reinstated here. They oath was administered by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Dogar in the Committee room of the court building.
Nawaz Sharif, whose party quit the federal government in protest to coalition partner Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) reluctance to reinstate Iftikhar Chauhdary, talking to newsmen said that it was not the reinstatement of the judges rather re-appointment.
