Mosul, Iraq : At least six people were killed and up to 32 others injured in a suicide car bomb attack at a popular marketplace in a town in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh on Saturday, a local police source said.
A suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a market in the town of Tal Afar, 80 km west of the provincial capital of Mosul, and blew it up, killing six people and wounding 32 others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The attacker apparently used a new tactic in order to cause maximum human casualty when he first hit a car in the market before he blew his car up among dozens of people who crowded to examine the incident, the source said.
The powerful blast also damaged several nearby houses, shops, stalls and civilian cars, he said.
Tal Afar is a mixed Kurdish, Shiite and Sunni Arab community. It has been the scene of ethnic and sectarian violence since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
