New Delhi : A 25-year-old man, suspected to be involved in a fake currency scam that surfaced in Uttar Pradesh two months ago, has been arrested here for smuggling counterfeit notes with a nominal value of Rs.157,000, police said Wednesday.
Sabir Ali Khan, a science graduate and resident of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from a bus station in Seelampur area late Tuesday.
The police said a bag containing 240 counterfeit Indian currency notes in the denominations of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 were recovered from him.
“During interrogation, Khan said he was in this trade for the past six months. We are also questioning him for his suspected links in the Uttar Pradesh fake currency scam,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast Delhi) Jaspal Singh.
Two months ago, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had found fake currency notes with a nominal value of Rs.30 million from the Domariyaganj branch of State Bank of India (SBI). Investigations in that case are on.
