Sana’a : Yemeni Coast Guard Authority has deployed about 1000 soldiers and 16 military boats to fight piracy launched by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab in Yemen.
Yemeni Coastguard Authority has intensified its security patrols throughout the twenty-four hours to reinforce the protection of ships and reduce piracy operations, a source in Coastguard Authority said.
The deployment of these soldiers came at a time that Yemen is coordinating with the Joint Forces in the African Horn, Malaysia and Japan in order to establish a regional center to fight piracy and reinforce the protection of the international navigation route via Aden Gulf.
Worth mentioning that the Cabinet has recently approved a memorandum of understanding between Western Indian Ocean countries, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea area for combating piracy and armed attack against the ships in the region.
The Cabinet has authorized the Minister of Transport to sign the memorandum and to oversee the preparations for the second regional meeting on the memorandum of understanding which is expected to be held in Sana’a on 27 till 30 October of this year.
