Ranchi : More than 20 school students, most of them aged below 15, fell ill after eating their mid-day meal in a school in the Jamshedpur district of Jharkhand, police said Saturday.
Around 200 school students of Narega Middle School situated in Narega village of Jamshedpur, which is around 180 km from Ranchi, were having mid-day meal Friday when one student found a boiled lizard in his plate and raised an alarm.
The students started vomiting and complained of pain and a burning sensation in their stomachs. The school management took them to Mahatma Gandhi Medical Hospital in Jamshedpur Friday evening.
“When the boy raised the alarm it created panic among the students and teachers. The students started vomiting to minimise the impact of lizard poison,” said Rakhohari Prasad, principal of the school.
According to the school management, all the students are out of danger. The children were administered saline and medicines as precautionary measures.
