New Delhi : With the national capital becoming the latest target in a string of terror strikes, the central government Sunday held a meeting to take stock of the internal security situation and discuss “steps” to beef up security.
A day after 30 people were killed and over 100 injured in the terror bombings that hit the capital, a high-level meeting chaired by union Home Minister Shivraj Patil was held. It was attended by Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrashekhar, National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan, union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal, among others.
After the meeting, home ministry spokesperson Onkar Nath Kedia said: “The security scenario in Delhi and elsewhere in the country was discussed at the meeting along with certain steps to be taken to augment security.”
Kedia, however, declined to elaborate on the “certain steps”. “They were not revealed,” he said.
He said the “certain steps” concerned beefing up security in Delhi. The meeting also underlined the need for closer coordination and quick sharing of information relating to terror threats.
