“Robert Gates arrived in Baghdad to attend ceremony of handing over the command of the war in Iraq to a new general,” the report said.

Gates’ visit came a day before the U.S. military preparing to transfer command of its troops in Iraq to Lieutenant General Ray Odierno from General David Petraeus.

The Pentagon chief’s visit is the eighth to the war-torn country since he took over the post on December 2006.
