Lakhtar and Dasada were reeling under the flood fury and over 1,500 people were shifted to safer places while four rescue teams with boats were on way from Ahmedabad, District Collector J.D. Bhatt told IANS over telephone.

He said the administration was supplying food packets made locally.

About 25 villages were said to be cut-off with state roads under flood waters and the Surendranagar-Ahmedabad highway too was closed. Many people in the district were camping in a municipal school.

Many dams in Saurashtra including Machhu 2 and Mudina were overflowing.

“There is no loss of life,” said Bhatt.
