Thet position was announced in Beijing by Vice foreign minister he Yafei, faced with Prime Minister Wen Jiabao’s participation soon in top-level meetings at New York UN headquarters. But all plans should be discussed extensively and democratically, said the official when he explained his country’s position with regard to that demand, which seeks to turn that council into a more efficient entity and grant more authority to it.

He also said any plan with that objective should reach as great consensus as possible.

The mentioned reform is one of the most important demands by the developing world, showing its great concern about its little representation, which is the opposite of many nations that are largely represented in the main UN authorities.

The Chinese Head of Government will attend on September 25 a top-level meeting to analyze fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals, agreed at a summit held in 2000.

Those objectives are focused on the struggle against poverty, a problem that the UN has recognized it continued worsening.

Wen will also participate in the UN General Assembly debates.
