Islamabad : Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari left here Sunday for the United States to lead the Pakistani delegation to the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sept. 22-26.
Zardari is accompanied by Pakistan’s foreign minister, finance minister, information minister, advisor to the prime minister for national security, and other senior officials, said the foreign ministry.
He is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Sept. 25.
He will also hold bilateral meetings with the presidents of Afghanistan, Brazil, France, Iran, Turkey, the United States, and the prime ministers of China, India, and South Korea, and the U.N. secretary general, and the president of the World Bank, the statement said.
Zardari left in a regular flight via London where he will have a brief stopover, officials said.
This year, the General Assembly, the highest deliberative body in the U.N. system, will focus on the maintenance of the peace and security, promotion of sustained economic growth and sustainable development, promotion of human rights, promotion of justice and international law, disarmament, combating international terrorism and crime prevention and drug control.
