New Delhi : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bangaru Laxman Monday opposed the Justice Ranganath Mishra committee’s recommendation to grant reservations for converted Christians and Muslims.
“If the government accepts the recommendations, the converted Christians and Muslims will share the 15 percent quota meant for the Scheduled Castes,” Laxman told a Dalit rally at Rajouri Garden in west Delhi.
Laxman, former BJP president, accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of “trying to snatch away the rights of Scheduled Castes” and warned the government against accepting the recommendation.
The rally was organised under the banner of the Anusuchit Jati Arakshan Adhikar Bachao Manch. A delegation of the organisation will call on President Pratibha Patil Tuesday and present a memorandum in this regard.
