Coalition soldier killed, Taliban blamed for violating “Peace Day” pledge

Kabul : A soldier of the US-led coalition and two local civilians were killed in a roadside bomb blast in southern Afghanistan, the military said on Monday.

A brief statement from the coalition forces’ Bagram base said the incident was being investigated.

Name and nationality of the soldier was not released. Also the exact location of the blast was not made public.

In a separate statement, the international forces in Afghanistan accused the Taliban of not respecting their pledge of truce on the International Peace Day on Sunday.

Like rest of the world, the UN-sponsored Peace Day was also observed in Afghanistan on Sunday and the Afghan government, the foreign troops and the Taliban have pledged not to fight in respect of the day.

The statement said the ISAF and Afghan forces ceased all operations throughout the day from midnight Saturday till midnight Sunday.

However, the insurgents did not honor their pledge and continued attacking Afghan police and army and kidnapping civilians.

The ISAF statement said that they had recorded 28 incidents of attacks on Afghan and ISAF forces and civilian population throughout the country.
