Islamabad : The Pakistani government on Monday condoled with Czech Republic on the tragic demise of its ambassador Ivo Zdarek, who was killed in a terrorist attack at Marriott Hotel.
President Asif Ali Zardari in his message to Czech President Vaclav Klaus expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of Czech envoy.
He said, “We strongly condemn this despicable act in which a number of innocent people have lost their lives and many others were injured.”
He said Pakistan remains firm in its resolve to rootout terrorism and extremism, and shall not be deterred by such acts.
“We seek the support and understanding of the international community in our common struggle against this menace,” the President said.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in his message to Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek termed the death of Czech envoy a great loss, not only for his own country, but also for Paksitan.
“The late Ambassador Zdarek was a dedicated and professional diplomat,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister said his government strongly condemned this barbaric act which resulted in the loss of many innocent precious human lives.
“We are determined to fight against the terrorists and take all measures to protect the lives and property of our citizens,” he said.
Gilani said security measures for foreigners including diplomatic missions and staff had been upgraded.
Meanwhile, the US Department of Defence at Pentagon has confirmed the deaths of its two marines in Marriott blast in Islamabad. According to GEO News, the Pentagon said that its two marines succumbed to injuries in the blast.
The soldiers were deployed in US embassy in Islamabad.
Pentagon said names of the US marines could not be revealed prior to informing families of the victims.
