Kolkata : A hoax phone call about a possible bomb planted at the Calcutta High Court Thursday set the police on alert.
“The city police control room received an anonymous phone call Thursday evening saying that a bomb has been kept at the Calcutta High Court and it’s going to explode soon. We sent our forces at once but did not find anything suspicious,” police deputy commissioner (headquarters) Vinet K. Goyal said.
“The caller could not be traced as the call came from one of the seven coin-booths at Kiran Shankar Road near the court in central Kolkata,” Goyal added.
Police personnel along with sniffer dogs were sent to the court area, which was vacated. After about two hours of search, no bomb was traced.
Security has been tightened in the city from Wednesday after a newspaper office here received an email threatening to blow up vital installations in the West Bengal capital with human bombs.
According to police sources, the email sent in the name of Indian Mujahideen to the Ananda Bazar Patrika office Tuesday evening said there would be 11 bomb blasts, including at the airport, popular hotels at Park Street in south Kolkata and government and private hospitals.
