Irani Trophy: Munaf strikes for Rest Of India

Vadodara : Munaf Patel’s triple strike brought Rest of India (ROI) back into the match as Ranji Trophy Champions Delhi were left tottering at 131 for five at lunch on day two of their Irani Trophy encounter here Thursday.

ROI were dismissed for 252 in their first innings Wednesday, but Munaf took three for 23 to peg back the opposition at the Reliance Stadium.

Resuming at their overnight score of 21 for no loss, Delhi lost opener Gautam Gambhir (5) in the second over of the day. The in-form Gambhir was caught in the slips by Rahul Dravid off Zaheer Khan.

Munaf then got the wicket of well-settled Aakash Chopra (42), who added 58 runs with skipper Virender Sehwag (43) for the second wicket. Chopra’s 68-ball stay ended when he edged one to Mohammad Kaif at second slip.

Munaf then removed Virat Kohli (4) caught by a diving Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Sehwag played some big shots but gave his wicket to Anil Kumble while Munaf struck again in the very next over to remove Mithun Manhas (4), who was also caught by Dhoni.

Rajath Bhatia (12) Punit Bisht (15) were at the crease at lunch.
