Priority to education, healthcare in UAE’s 2009 budget

Dubai : Education, healthcare and social services will be given top priority in the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) budget for the fiscal year 2009.

This was one of the recommendations made at a meeting of UAE’s Financial Economic Committee, which discussed the new budget, according to the official Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The meeting also recommended that a balance be maintained between spending and revenues.

The 2009 budget, the report said, will be presented Jan 1 next year, according to the instructions of the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The meeting also discussed a finance ministry memorandum on the progress made on a project aimed at increasing the revenues of the federal government.

The meeting was attended by the UAE’s Minister for Presidential Affairs Sheikh Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister for Public Works Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak, Minister for Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al-Mansouri, Minister for Labour Saqr Ghobash, Minister of State for Financial Affairs Obaid Humaid Al-Tayer, Governor of the UAE Central Bank Sultan Bin Nasser Al-Suwaidi and other senior officials.
