“The passing of Mr.Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi is a great loss for the Indian Muslim community. His leadership would be greatly missed,” said Mr.Ali Quraishi, president of AFMI, in a statement here.

“Mr. Owaisi was the last of the Indian Muslim stalwarts among a group of dedicated Muslim leaders who provided confidence and a sense of political empowerment for the community in the post-1947 era. The rest being Dr.Abdul Jaleel Faridi, Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait, and G.M.Banatwala,” said Dr. Abdul Raheman Nakadar, trustee of AFMI.

“His contributions in the field of politics and education and economic empowerment are unforgettable. The emergence of Darus Salam Cooperative Bank, Deccan Medical and Engineering Colleges and the state of the art Owaisi Hospital are a living testimony to his efforts.”

Mr. Owaisi had attended the annual convention of AFMI held in Hyderabad in 2002 and spoken at length about the importance of education in the upliftment of the community.

“We pray for his maghfirah and patience for family members.”
