Chennai : The MDMK party is mulling a possible alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after reportedly being cold-shouldered by AIADMK boss Jayalalitha over seat sharing, a top MDMK party source said Thursday.
“All our claims are being shot down one after another by the AIADMK. The buck has to stop somewhere and our party’s future prospects taken forward. Our experience on seat sharing has been bitter,” the MDMK leader said.
He refused to elaborate.
Though the AIADMK has not yet officially said anything, it has indicated it will cede four seats each to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and MDMK – of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state. This has reportedly upset both parties.
Jayalalitha has chosen to cast her lot with the Third Front and the Left parties.
The AIADMK’s talks with the CPI-M have hit a road block over disagreement in ceding the Tirupur and Dindigul constituencies.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko refused to comment on the reported breakdown of talks with the AIADMK.
After appearing in the Madras High Court for party colleague Nanchil Sampath, who is detained under the National Security Act for allegedly anti-national speeches and acts, Vaiko declined to reply to journalists’ queries on the issue.
A division bench of the Madras High Court Thursday refused to hear Vaiko and ordered the transfer of the matter, Vaiko informed reporters.
