Puducherry : Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Govind Singh Gurjar died in New Delhi Monday following a brief illness, Chief Minister V. Vaidyalingam said.
“After a brief illness the lieutenant governor passed away in New Delhi in the morning. The body is being taken to his home state of Rajasthan where the last rites will be performed tomorrow (Tuesday). The official mourning will then begin,” Vaidyalingam told IANS.
“I will attend the funeral along with important dignitaries from my state,” he added.
Gurjar, elected to the Rajasthan legislature six times, was appointed to the post in March last year during the tenure of former chief minister N. Rangasamy.
Born in 1932 in Balakanangal village of Rajasthan, Gurjar was a leading advocate and had been a state minister between 1981 and 1985.
