11 families evacuated to safer places in Kandi belt of Baramulla


35 families shifted from Khoru Hundwara to safer area

Baramulla/Hundwara, April 08(NAK): At least eleven families were evacuated to safer places when land erosion took dangerous turn in upper Kandi belt of Baramulla on Wednesday following the heavy incessant rains which has been lashing Kashmir valley from last four days. While as in Khoru Hundwara 35 families have shifted to other villages as water level in nearby river Pohru has raised up from normal scale posing alarm threats to locals.

Land in rural villages situated on hillsides in Kandi belt of Baramulla such as Kawhar, Galibal, Katiyawali, Lateifabad, and Ladi Modanan is eroding posing threats to lives and property of residents living in these areas.

“Our village Kawhar, Latiefabad and adjoining areas are facing erosion after the terrestrial rains. We feel every sacred as previously a whole neighboring got eroded and many lives got lost,” said Jaffar Hussain of Kawhar Bala village.

“This whole area has been facing erosion as the land got afforested,” added he.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Latief-u-Zaman Deva himself visited the erosion hit villages and took stock of the situation.

Talking to News Agency of Kashmir, DC Baramulla Latief-u-Zaman Deva said, “I myself visited the villages which are facing erosion and directed the officer to shift the families to safer places as a safety measure.”

“The families have been shifted to a nearby by Primary School and a forest rest house. A revenue official has been deployed there to monitor the situation. District Administration would provide every kind of help the evacuated families,” added Deva but maintained that the situation is under control.

“The situation is not so grim. The heavy downpour has made things difficult but we are ready to deal with the situation,” he further said.

The evacuated families were identified as Mohmmed Sikander Khan son of Hahsim Khan, Mohmmed Klander khan son of Mohammed Hahsim Khan, Sadiq Khan son of Mutwali Khan, Ismail khan so of Mutwali khan, Mohammed Rafiq Khan so of Mohammed Zaman, Mohammed Yousuf Famamda son of Khazir Mohmmed Famamda, Fazil Din son of Mohammed Ali of Kawhar Baramulla were shifted to forest rest house. While as other families of Latiefabad were shifted to Primary School Latiefabad. The family heads were identified as Abdul Majeed Beigh son of Abdul Aziz , Abdul Kadir Beigh so of Abdul Rahim Beigh son of Mohmmed Azim Beigh, Nazir Ahmed Beigh son of Mohammed Amin OF Latiefabad.

Meanwhile, MLA Baramulla Muzzafar Hussain Beigh have asked district administration to provide every kind of help to the victims on war footing so that people won’t suffer in bad weather conditions.

Meanwhile, 35 families residing in Kohur village of Hundwara were forced to migrate to safer places as Phoru stream was overflowing and bridge contacting Baramulla- Hundwara road got washed away.

However, Flood and Irrigation official told News Agency of Kashmir that situation is under control.

Ghulam Mohmmed Wani Kulangam, who left the village, told News Agency of Kashmir on phone that he was forced to migrate to safer place as water level is increasing to alarming level in Phour stream. (NAK)
