Lucknow : The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Friday reserved its judgment on the murder of Manjunath, a young oil company officer who was killed for attempting to blow the whistle on a fuel adulteration scam.
A division bench comprising Justices K.K. Mishra and D.V. Sharma reserved the judgement, I.B. Singh, a senior lawyer who represents the Manjunath Trust, told reporters after the hearing.
Manjunath, an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) sales officer and Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow (IIM-L) graduate, was shot dead at a petrol pump in Lakhimpur district of Uttar Pradesh Nov 19, 2005.
He had tried to put a check on adulteration of diesel and petrol with kerosene at an IOC outlet owned by the father of prime accused Pawan Kumar alias Monu Singh.
In March 2007, the Lakhmipur District and Sessions court had found eight people guilty. The court had awarded death sentence to Monu and life terms to the others. All eight had challenged the verdicts in the high court.
