Kolkata : Political parties in West Bengal made full use of the Bengali New Year – Nababarsha – Wednesday to woo the electorates with calendars and greeting cards.
Apart from campaigners stepping up their work on a day which was a holiday for most people in the state, the party workers were seen visiting localities to exchange pleasantries with the voters and wishing them “Subho Nababarsha” (Happy New Year).
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) candidate Rabin Deb, who is contesting against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee from South Kolkata seat, presented red roses to his voters.
Banerjee’s loyalists distributed calendars with their leader’s photo, and also showered them with greeting cards.
The CPI-M also presented calendars to the people with Marxist patriarch Jyoti Basu’s picture adorning them.
In North Kolkata constituency, the CPI-M put up hoardings with New year wishes for people. The hoardings had pictures of party candidate Mohammed Salim.
