New Delhi : The Election Commission has identified nearly 27,000 villages as “vulnerable” from a security point of view in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
The second phase polling for 141 Lok Sabha constituencies in 13 states and 140 assembly segments in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa will take place Thursday.
“Vulnerability mapping of all the constituencies (which go to the polls Thursday) have been carried out. A total of 26,872 villages and hamlets have been identified as vulnerable,” Deputy Election Commissioner R. Balakrishnan told reporters Tuesday.
At least 19.48 crore people are eligible to vote in the second phase. A total of 2,041 candidates are seeking mandate from 141 Lok Sabha constituencies. Among the candidates, 120 are woman.
“For this election, we have deployed 280,838 control units and 350,879 ballot units,” the Election Commission said.
