Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh president of the Peace Party of India was booked Wednesday for making offensive comments against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and state Chief Minister Mayawati at a public meeting, police said.
“Abdul Mannan made insulting remarks against Sonia Gandhi and Mayawati while addressing a public meeting in Faizabad district Tuesday,” police inspector Digvijay Singh told IANS over telephone.
Mannan has been booked under section 171G (False statement in connection with an election in relation to the personal character or conduct of any candidate) and section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and the Representation of People Act, added Singh.
Faizabad District Magistrate Anil Garg said that after examination of the recording of Mannan’s speech, orders were issued Wednesday to register the case against him.
The Peace Party of India is a regional outfit with its base in pockets of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Faizabad district is some 250 km from Lucknow.
