Kolkata : The West Bengal ruling Left Front (LF) here Monday put up a show of unity ahead of the Lok Sabha polls days after some allies attacked major partner Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) for its role in Singur and Nandigram.
“No matter how hard one tries, no one can divide the Left Front members now on the issues of Singur and Nandigram,” Ashok Ghosh, Forward Bloc state general secretary told reporters during a joint press meet at the CPI-M headquarter here of all the Left Front partners.
A few days back Ghosh said state Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was responsible for the police firing in Nandigram March 14, 2007 that claimed 14 lives.
Ghosh during an earlier speech also termed the Tatas as “traitors” for shifting the Nano small car project from the state’s Singur to Sanand in Gujarat.
Global auto major Tata Motors announced the shifting of the prized project last October after two years of sustained protests by the Trinamool Congress-led protestors demanding return of fertile land, which they alleged was forcibly taken by the state government for the car project.
“What the Tatas have done is grossly wrong. They have done injustice to the people. They are traitors,” Ghosh said earlier.
Kshiti Goswami, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) top leader in a recent press meet said armed CPI-M cadres had also entered Nandigram along with the police March 14, 2007.
However, Monday all the Left Front members were seen together. They said no other political formation in India is comparable to the Left Front, which has been in power for the last 32 years in the state. The Lok Sabha polls will be held in West Bengal in three phases – April 30, May 7 and May 13.
