Kerala Haj Committee asks for increase in state quota

By TwoCircles.net Staff Reporter,

Kochi: The Kerala State Haj Committee demanded that 3000 additional seats should be added to the state Haj quota to accommodate those who could not go for Haj for three years even after applying. The Committee decided in its meeting yesterday to send a petition in this regard to the Central Haj Committee and the Ministry of External Affairs.

The meeting assigned a technical committee to enhance the facilities of the Haj pilgrims. The road to the airport will be electrified as the Haj flights are at night. If it cannot be completed in time, temporary street lights will be installed. Facilities will be made available for parking of vehicles.

The decision to delay flights was taken after consulting with religious scholars, said the Haj Committee chairman PTA Raheem, MLA. As the Haj service was early in the previous years, pilgrims could not complete all the rites properly as they wished. This problem will be solved by the delaying of flights, he added.

The Committee decided to send volunteers to help the pilgrims this year also.

Prof AK Abdul Hameed, member of Central Haj Committee, K Muhammedunni Haji, MLA, AV Abdu Haji, Ali Kadampuzha and Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunhi Moulvi also attended the meeting.
