Kozhikode: The Kerala School Teachers Union has decided to institute an award in the name of late Panakkad Syed Muhammedali Shihab Thangal, former president of the state Muslim League who died recently. The award will be presented for contributions in the fields of education, culture and communal harmony.
The KSTU will present awards for students excelling in the fields of art, sports and learning. Awards will also be presented to teachers who give good contributions to communal harmony and relief.
The decision was taken by the state committee presided over by CP Cheriya Muhammed, president of the KSTU. AK Sainudheen, general secretary, welcomed the function and PP Saidalavi, secretary, expressed the vote of thanks.
In another development, the working committee and state council of the Muslim League agreed to the secretariat decision of electing Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal as the new president of the party. Both meetings were held yesterday in the League House, the state office of the party, in Kozhikode. The party secretariat had elected Syed Hyderali SHihab Thangal as the new president on August 2 after the funeral of Syed Shihab Thangal.
