New Delhi : The government Tuesday decided to look into the issue of Jet Airways pilots threatening to go on an indefinite strike from Sep 7 midnight in protest against the sacking of two senior colleagues.
The Regional Labour Commissioner (Central Region) will look into the matter, said a government official.
Earlier in the day, private carrier Jet Airways said the decision of its newly constituted pilots’ union, the National Aviators Guild, to go on indefinite strike was illegal.
“As a responsible corporate body, Jet Airways assures its guests that appropriate action will be taken to ensure that there is no disruption in its operations, and that no inconvenience is caused to passengers,” the airlines said in a statement Tuesday.
It also said there would be no disruption in its operations, and refused to recognise the newly constituted pilots’ union.
Over 600 Jet Airways pilots have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from midnight Sep 7 to protest the sacking of two colleagues earlier this month.
The two sacked senior pilots, Balaraman and Sam Thomas, were told of their termination by e-mail. The pilots claim that they were laid off as the two were instrumental in forming the pilots union of the airline.
Girish Kaushik, president of the pilots’ guild, said the union has issued a 14-day mandatory notice to the airline management apprising it about the decision of the pilots to go on strike.
