Khanna chaired a meeting of senior officers from public works department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi government and Delhi traffic police to discuss with all the stakeholders waterlogging and traffic problems on the Delhi roads subsequent to the rains.

All stakeholders were directed to augment and prepare short-term measures within a week and find appropriate solutions to the waterlogging problem.

To improve the road user behaviour and the traffic discipline in the capital, the lt-governor directed the joint commissioner, traffic police, to educate the road user through the media.

He also asked the police to take up a pilot project to check the feasibility of installing solar powered traffic signal system in Delhi.

Khanna also asked for a holistic long-term master plan and requested Engineers India Limited (EIL) to coordinate the project. “Planning would also need to be undertaken for ensuring run-off water reached existing water bodies.”

He stressed upon the possibilities to recharge the existing water bodies from the excess surface run-off water from adjacent water logged areas. He also directed the stakeholders to maintain a duty roaster for the pump operators, especially to clear water accumulation at the underpasses, during heavy rain.
