Lucknow : A Samajwadi Party legislator and six of his supporters were booked for assaulting Dalits and grabbing their land in Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Ravidas Nagar district, an official said Saturday.
“The case against Vijay Mishra, the MLA (legislator) from Gyanpur assembly seat in Sant Ravidas Nagar, and six others was registered Friday as they attacked Dalits of Kaulapur village with wooden sticks, with an ill-intention to occupy their land,” police inspector A.K. Mishra told reporters.
“Preliminary investigations reveal, the MLA and his supporters assaulted as many as 30 Dalits of the village who protested land grabbing,” he added.
According to police, the legislators and his supporters are absconding.
“We have detained some aides of the MLA to ascertain his whereabouts. Efforts are on to nab the legislator and others who have been booked under the SC/ST (Atrocities Prevention),” said Mishra.
