New Delhi: The wife, son and nephew of a Delhi Police sub-inspector have been arrested for kidnapping and murdering a 22-year-old engineering student in west Delhi, officials said Thursday.
Sub-inspector Rajendra Sharma’s wife Raj Rani Sharma, her son Lalit and her brother’s son Narendra were arrested Dec 7 for the abduction and killing of Shazia, who stayed in a rented accommodation in Nangloi area of west Delhi. Hailing from Bihar, she was studying mechanical engineering in the capital.
“The three killed Shazia because of her closeness with Rajendra Sharma. Shazia was apparently blackmailing Rajendra after they came to know each other in September,” a police officer said.
“Shazia had some arguments with her landlord and she went to the Nangloi police station to complain. Sharma was given the duty to deal with the matter. Thereafter, Rajendra and she met many times and came close to each other,” the official added.
The police said Sharma, who was later moved to the security wing, could not keep the affair hidden from his wife, who grew more furious when Shazia reportedly started using him for her personal work.
“She shared the matter with her son Lalit and brother’s son Narendra. They kidnapped Shazia Oct 7 and took her to a village in Rajasthan where they murdered her. They also burnt the body to eliminate the evidence,” the official said.
Police have recovered Shazia’s burnt body and are now ascertaining the role of the sub-inspector in the incident.
