Malaysian PM Najib returns after attending Climate Change Summit

Sepang, Malaysia : Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak returned on Sunday, from Copenhagen after attending the United Nations Summit on Climate Change in the Danish capital.

The aircraft carrying Najib and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, touched down at the KL International Airport (KLIA) at 12.35pm.

Najib and Rosmah were greeted by Perlis Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) Dr Md Isa Sabu, People’s Progressive Party (PPP) president M. Kayveas and several officers from the Prime Minister’s Department.

In his address at the climate change conference, Najib announced Malaysia’s agreement to reduce its carbon dioxide emission to 40 per cent by the year 2020 compared to the 2005 levels, subject to assistance from developed countries.

United Nations data shows Malaysia’s carbon emissions in 2006 stood at 187 million tonnes, or 7.2 tonnes from each Malaysian.
