Symposium on minorities’ rights held at AMU

Aligargh: “Muslims have always served the country. They have fought alongwith other communities for the cause of the country whenever it faced any problem but their service was not recognized the way they deserved. Therefore, most of the people are unaware about their contribution to the development of country” said Police Commissioner of Aligarh, Mr. PV Jagan Mohan at a seminar on ‘Rights of Minorities in India: Problems and Challenges’ held at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on December 21.

In his presidential speech, Professor VK Abdul Jalil, Registrar of AMU, said: “Muslims are backward in all spheres of life so, they should make all efforts to solve their problems instead of only depending on Government help. For that, they should establish NGOs in a large number otherwise they will face much severe condition in future.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shakeel Samdani said that Sachar Committee and Mishra Commission have proved the backwardness of Muslims and prescribed reservation as solution. “Now it is upon Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre to prove how much serious it is to solve the problems of Muslims” he added.

Professor NAK Darrani urged Muslims to restore their precious history and come forward to get their constitutional rights. “Do not miss the chance to get benefit from government welfare schemes” advised he.

Guest of honor Mrs. Somayya Agarwal said: “Muslim women are most backward socially and educationally in the country and when it comes to Haryana, there 90% Muslim women are backward. Therefore, there is a need to give especial emphasize on education.”

Dr. Mohibbul Haque was of the view that Muslims are being victims of police cruelty because they are under representation in police and Army.

The program was organized by Faculty of General Education Centre of AMU. This was the second program on the same topic within this week at AMU campus. Earlier, a similar program was organized by Faculty of Theology of AMU on Dec 18.
