People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in its campaign to save the Avians has written to Directer General of Rajasthan Police Harish Chandra Meena for the banning the use of Manjha.

“We have written to DGP Meena yesterday asking him to ban the Manjha to save birds during the kite flying season. We want to convey the message- ‘Cut the Glass-coated Manjha, not bird’s wings’,” Ashish Verma, Campaign Coordinator PETA India said Thursday.

The Manjha used in kite-flying competition is often gummed and coated with powdered and finely crushed glass to cut through opponent’s kite line.
