The women aged between 18 to 50 years said weight management, especially in these size-zero times, is an important issue for them. Kolkata women at 40 percent were second to perceive themselves as obese followed by Mumbai at 39 percent and Chennai at 26 percent.

“A significant 39 percent of the women surveyed perceived themselves as overweight. The reasons – 53 percent of the women confessed to irregular eating habits and 52 percent put it down to lack of exercise,” said the survey by Kaya skin care clinics.

The survey said that weight control measures aren’t followed as rigorously as one would expect, though diets and regular walks or jogs find a mention.

“The findings underline the constant refrain of modern dieticians and fitness experts and most overweight women go in for sporadic diets or bursts of exercise, when what is required is a lifestyle change,” the survey said.

According to a health expert, women need to look at weight loss holistically, to combine a well-planned diet with an exercise regime. They should stick to it for a fit and toned body.

The respondents included 809 women from the four metros.
