Bogota : The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) released four hostages Sunday, as the leftist rebel group had previously promised.
The three policemen and one soldier who had been held since 2007 were handed over to representatives of the government and the International Committee of the Red Cross in jungles in the southern part of Colombia by FARC members, Ivan Cepeda, a political scientist from the city of Villavicencio, said.
The hostages Walter Lozano, Juan Galicia, Alexis Torres and William Dominguez were to be taken to Villavicencio via helicopter to meet with their relatives. However, poor weather conditions might force the helicopters to instead travel to Florencia, a city further in the south, said Cepeda.
The FARC has said it intends to release one more hostage Monday, former governor of the Meta province, Alan Jara, and another Wednesday, former Colombian parliament member Sigifredo Lopez.
