New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday criticised the government for “contradictory statements” on the Mumbai terrorist attacks and its alleged failure to exert pressure on Pakistan to act against terror masterminds.
“National Security Adviser (NSA) M.K. Narayanan issues a statement and Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee in no time contradicts it. The UPA (United Progressive Alliance) has also fallen short of all diplomatic efforts it should have made to exert international pressure on Pakistan to act swiftly,” party spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad told reporters here.
Narayanan said in a TV interview that Pakistan had responded to the Indian dossier of evidence, but Mukherjee Tuesday dismissed the remark and said the NSA had said it in “his own way”.
The BJP spokesman said Pakistan would get an opportunity to campaign against India because of such contradictions.
The BJP leader alleged that the Congress-led UPA government was leaving behind a suffering country.
“Only the (BJP-led) National Democratic Alliance (NDA) can bring an end to the sufferings of the country and can also ensure rapid development,” Prasad said.
Referring to the party’s national executive and national council meetings beginning in Nagpur Friday, Prasad said it will be the largest confluence of party workers from across the country.
“Legislators, MPs and workers of all level will be participating in the three-day event and the agenda will be the Lok Sabha (elections) preparations besides other financial and political issues. Sri Lanka is also a tentative issue,” Prasad said.
The national executive meeting will be held for two days Friday and Saturday, and followed by a day-long national council meeting, he added.
Speaking on former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s health, Prasad said: “Today he is better than yesterday and the doctors have informed that his health is improving very fast.”
Vajpayee, 84, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Tuesday night after he complained of difficulty in breathing.
Hospital officials Wednesday informed that Vajpayee will stay in the hospital for a few more days.
