Lucknow : Five policemen have been suspended after a man accused of murdering an 8-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging himself in the lock up in a Uttar Pradesh town, officials said Thursday.
“Mahipal Singh, a murder accused, Wednesday late night committed suicide by hanging himself from the ventilator of the lock up in Mahamaya Nagar,” Additional Director General (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters here Thursday.
“Ordering a magisterial probe into the case, we today (Thursday) placed the policemen, including the station house officer (SHO) of the Sikandaramau police station under suspension,” Lal added.
Mahipal Singh was arrested Wednesday after a man in the Mahamaya Nagar district, accused him of murdering his daughter and registered a case against him.
Mahamaya Nagar is some 350 km from Lucknow.
