ISLAMABAD : Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday condemned the attack on a police post in the country’s eastern Punjab province.
In separate messages, Zardari and Gilani expressed their strong indignation at the act and reiterated the resolve that the government would not be bowed down by such attacks.
Zardari said that the operation against the militants and miscreants in Swat and other areas would continue till their elimination.
Gilani said that the writ of the government would be established at all costs and the government could not be forced tostop its operations.
The two leaders paid rich tributes to the law enforcing agencies and their personnel for their courageous stand against the miscreants and noted that they had rendered numerous sacrifices to bring peace to the restive parts of Pakistan.
At least seven policemen were killed early Saturday in an ambush attack by militants on the police post in Mianwali of Punjab.
Armed militants opened fire on the policemen standing on the checkpoint following an explosion there, in which the checkpoint collapsed with a loud blast, according to local TV reports.
Rescue efforts are underway but police officer Jamat Ali Bukhari said that he feared all deployed police officials had died.
On Friday, Pakistani security forces killed 52 Taliban when they targeted hideouts in Chapri and Feroz Khel areas along the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
