Iranian FM visits Iraq

BAGHDAD : Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived late on Tuesday in Baghdad, where he is expected to meet with senior Iraqi leaders on bilateral economic ties, an Iraqi foreign ministry source said on Wednesday.

Mottaki is heading a large Iranian delegation and will meet with Iraqi officials to discuss promotion of bilateral relations in all aspects, including energy, tourism and trade, the source told Xinhua.

The visiting Iranian official is also expected to meet with Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, the source said.

Mottaki’s visit just followed France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy’s surprise visit to Iraq on Tuesday.
