New Delhi : Former Karnataka chief minister S. Bangarappa Thursday resigned from the Lok Sabha and the Samajwadi Party while declaring his plans to return to the Congress.
“I have resigned from my Lok Sabha seat of Shimoga as well as from the Samajwadi Party. I submitted my resignation to the speaker and he has accepted it,” Bangarappa told reporters in the parliament House Thursday.
Explaining the reasons behind his move, he said: “The BJP’s (Bharatiya Janata Party) victory in the assembly election in Karnataka was not a good sign. It’s high time all secular parties unite to defeat the communal forces.”
He denied that his resignation from the Samajwadi Party was because of the deteriorating relations between it and the Congress.
Bangarappa said he has sought an appointment with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
