Tehran : Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad officially welcomed his visiting Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.
Ahmadinejad received Berdymukhamedov in his office in the presidential venue.
The two presidents reviewed guards of honors after they listened to the anthems of the two countries played at the beginning of the reception ceremony.
The Turkmen president arrived in Tehran Friday evening at the head of a ranking delegation.
He is accompanied by all his cabinet members in his two-day visit.
On Friday evening, Berdymukhamedov visited Milad Tower at the heart of Tehran.
He is scheduled to meet various Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran and discuss issues of mutual interest, including regional and international matters, with them.
He will also meet the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
This is Berdymukhamedov’s third visit to Iran since he was elected president in 2006.
Iran and Turkmenistan enjoy a border of about 1,260 kms through a river running in northeastern country.
Turkmenistan has a population of about 6 million.
