Delhi-based Kashmiri journalist Iftikhar Gilani’s Urdu translation of his famous book My Days in Prison has been selected for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award.
Iftikhar Gilani was imprisoned for seven months for espionage charges in 2002 but he was acquitted by the court in January 2003. Gilani is Delhi bureau chief of Kashmir Times. He also writes for some Pakistani dailies including Friday Times. He is the son-in-law of Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani.
My Days in Prison is based on his days in the prison. He translated it in Urdu under the title of Tihar kay Shab-o-roz with veteran Urdu journalist and author Nusrat Zaheer.
Tihar kay Shab-o-roz is the first ever book published by the Penguin in Urdu. It is among 16 other books selected for the Sahitya award under the translation category.
