New Delhi : The Nehru Planetarium is organising a fair at Jantar Mantar here Sunday to educate people on the astronomical instruments at the 17th century heritage site.
The fair is a part of several activities planned during the International Year of Astronomy, being observed globally this year.
“The fair will highlight and spread awareness about the usage of Jantar Mantar observatory instruments among people in the country,” Nehru Planetarium Director N. Rathnasree said.
The fair will start at 11 a.m. Sunday and will go on till sunset.
“There will be volunteers present at every instrument of the observatory to help visitors understand the usage of the instruments,” she said.
The fair is also part of the efforts to obtain a large database of positional astronomy observations with the Jantar Mantar instruments, in order to understand the current status of the instruments and their masonry parameters.
Jantar Mantar, consisting of 13 astronomy instruments, was built in the 17th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur to study the movements of the sun, moon and planets.
